undefinedFor our first test ride we headed through some smaller dunes and made our way to a steep hill climb to see how it pulls on the hill compared to other 4 stroke ATV’s. The first thing we noticed was the incredible throttle response. No hesitation or bogging down at all, just instant power! We also quickly learned how light the front end was. With a light push of the throttle the Glamis 440 would hook up great in the rear and point the front end toward the sky! With the front end being on the lighter side it made 3rd-4th gear turns challenging. We needed to let off of the gas to be able to point the front end in the right direction. Powering through the smaller dunes was fun to say the least. Ripping through small half bowls and lofting off dune slip faces the Glamis 440 felt light and nimble, able to handle anything we could throw at it. We felt the front ended needed to be wider and the overall length needed to be an inch or two longer. Wider a-arms in either the +2/+1 or +3/+1 configuration would cure both the width and length issue and allow it to keep the front end down in high speed turns and handle the dunes better overall. With a wider front end we would also like to see the addition of a steering stabilizer.

undefinedArriving at the hill the Glamis 440 proved to be a very capable hill rocket. Dumping the clutch at the starting line powering through the whoops and up the hill was a pleasure. As long as we didn’t let off the throttle the front end skimmed over the whoops while the plush rear suspension effortlessly soaked them up. Out of the whoops the Glamis 440’s transmission put the power to the ground, never missed a shift and easily powered up the hill in 4th gear. We were very impressed with the fuel-injected power! We ended up racing a few other quads up the hill. It easily out ran all other stock ATV’s at the hill including the Banshee, Raptor, DS650, and even a few modified ATV’s (pipes etc). We were thoroughly impressed with the power that the Glamis 440 made. We feel it is one of the most powerful stock ATV's you can buy.

In the dunes the Glamis 440 is a blast to ride. It easily rips through the bowls and up any hill we pointed it towards. Again 2 of our test riders noticed the light front end and cornering issue. A wider and longer stance would really make the Glamis 440 shine on high-speed dune rides.

undefinedJumping the Glamis 440 was a thrill. It felt stable and very easy to maneuver in the air. The plush suspension would soak up the face of the jump and loft you off the top. Our test riders had mixed feelings on landing from a jump. Some of the heavier riders found it bottoming out some while the lighter guys didn’t notice it bottoming out. The suspension is roughly set up for a 170-pound rider. It can easily be adjusted for heavier riders.

undefinedWe took the Glamis 440 to the sand drags, which is a relatively flat sand drag racing area with a few mild whoops in the middle. Again it did extremely well with the limited amount of people there to race against.

Beating all stock quads it raced along with some modified Banshee’s and 250R’s the Glamis 440 hooks up hard out of the hole, never missed a shift, and sailed through the whoops. The transmission seems to be well built, it’s shifts smooth and effortlessly while the suspension settings seemed plenty plush for our 230 pound rider. Through the whoops at the drags the front end hardly touches the ground while the rear end soaks them up all while putting the power to the ground.

During one of the races against a slightly modified Raptor our test rider let off the throttle to let him catch up, he looked over at the Raptor as if to say ‘is that all you got?’, then wicked open the throttle and left him in roost!. At the end of the race the Raptor rider was NOT happy, he signaled that the Cannondale Glamis 440 was ‘number 1’ and sped up then slammed on his brakes at the last minute. Apparently he was so upset at his loss that he wanted to ram the Glamis 440! Nothing occurred and we continued racing. During the course of our racing only highly modified Banshee’s and big bore TR250R’s gave the Glamis 440 a run for its money. Again we were very impressed with what it was capable of!

undefined    Night rides were interesting. The stock lights are hard mounted to the quad and don’t turn with the handlebars. While we realize the Cannondales were designed to be a competitive motocross machine (where lights are not necessary) we felt it needed more light output.

All of our test riders were thoroughly pleased with the performance of the Glamis 440. With the machine being designed for motocross it proved to be a respectable duner! The smooth ‘never miss a shift’ transmission worked flawlessly at putting the Glamis 440’s power to the ground. The fuel injections quick throttle response is a blessing! No jetting problems to deal with just instant power when needed. If you’re looking for a new ATV to shred the dunes, give the Cannondale Glamis 440 a close look. The $8100.95 price tag may seem steep but you get a high-tech quad with a powerful fuel injected motor, top quality parts already installed along the well proven Ohlin shocks providing 10.5” of travel in the rear and 9.5 in the front.

Stay tuned as we add more lights, skid plates, polished aluminum goodies, along with other miscellaneous items to the Cannondale Glamis 440!
