This year one of the sponsors, the American Sand Association

(ASA) and Funco along with a long list of vendors held a sand rail raffle. The tickets cost $100 each with a maximum of 2000 sold and all the proceeds going to the ASA to help save the Glamis sand dunes. On Sunday the ASA had about 150 tickets left and were soon down to the last ticket, which was purchased by the ASA.
They decided to auction the last ticket to the highest bidder with the proceeds from this ticket going to the American Red Cross to help with the tragedy in New York City. The bidding started at $100 and a few of the spectators in the crowd slowly increased the bids up to $500. The crowd cheered as the bids hit the $500 mark. Thinking that was the end of the bidding, Don Murphy stepped up and offered $1000! After the cheering from the crowd subsided Mark Harms from Sand Tires Unlimited stepped up and bid $1500! It was an intense bidding war between Don and Mark with the crowd looking at the lowest bidder wondering what he would do next. Mark Harms finally ended up being the highest bidder with a whopping $3000 bid! After he won the ticket he made an announcement saying that since he was on the ASA board of directors it would look extremely fishy if he ended up winning the $53K Funco buggy. With all eyes on Mark, he walks through the crowd and finds a lady holding a baby and gives her the ticket! The crowd was in amazement as she held up the $3000 raffle ticket. Mark has donated substancial amounts to the ASA and he along with countless other behind the scene hero's have been extremely valuable assets to helping save the Sand Toy Capitol of the world, Glamis. All sand sport enthusiasts thank the unsung hero's and organizations helping to save Glamis!
